If your fridge light is not working, but power is going to the appliance and it is cooling, your fridge is safe to use even when it isn’t illuminated. Fixing a fridge light depends on the model of your fridge. If your appliance is fitted with a bulb light you can replace this on your own, however if your appliance has an LED light we would highly recommend booking an engineer visit to have it replaced professionally.
Replacing the bulb
Unless you have a replacement bulb available, we recommend using our spare parts finder to purchase an original replacement that fits your appliance.
Once you have the new bulb, the step by step guide below will take you through the process of replacing the old bulb.
1. Switch the appliance off from the mains.
2. Locate the bulb and clear the area around.
3. Unclip or unscrew the plastic bulb cover.
4. Unscrew the old bulb.
5. Screw in the replacement bulb.
6. Refit the plastic bulb cover, making sure it’s secured into position.
7. Switch the appliance on.
Note: the process for changing the bulb can vary from model to model. If the above instructions do not work for your appliance, we recommend referring to your appliance's instruction manual for model-specific instructions.
No power going to the fridge
Your light might have stopped working if there is no power going to appliance. Check that the plug is properly inserted into the socket and the switch is set to on.
If this has been established, check that the socket is providing power by plugging in another electrical product into the socket, for example a lamp. If the socket doesn't work, insert the fridge freezer’s plug into the socket next to it, if you have a double socket, and try again
If the sockets work, check the fuse in the plug by putting the fuse into another appliance's plug or by putting a new fuse which you know works into the fridge freezer’s plug. Make sure you use a 13 amp fuse.
Ensure that you also check whether the circuit breaker has tripped. If necessary, contact an electrician.
