Limited choice of wash programmes but good
Bosch DW review 4 series Integrated Does a good wash and the racks are better than the Series 2 freestanding which we also bought for another property recently. I like the Wifi Feature too but would have been happy to live without it! My main complaint is the limited choice of washer programmes is very limited and the shortest one is still an hour. Admittedly there is a bit more flexibility with the 4 series as you can use half load which shortens time a little. Our last dishwasher had 15 and 30 minute programme options. It always produced good results and we never had to run a programme longer than 30 minutes. We went for Bosch mainly because they were offering a 5-year warranty and in the past have proved relatively reliable. I really dispute the claims for the “Eco programme” uses the lowest amount of energy and takes a ridiculous 3 and half hours to run, all be it at a slightly lower wash temperature of 50c. If it is running for 3 and half hours it means the machine is running 3 and half times longer per wash than the 1-hour programme. For lightly soiled dishes 30 minutes is more than adequate. I really don’t think the Bosch engineers who designed these wash programmes are living in the real world or they under instructions to design programmes that shorten the life of the machine, by creating such long wash programmes. Bosch are not alone in this but there are other makes on the market like Hotpoint and Indesit that offer these short wash cycles.

Bosch Fully Integrated Dishwasher
To install the dishwasher I had to add 1/2 inch plywood under the machine in the cabinets to install it properly as the legs would not adjust to the height required. The first dishwasher when I installed it, which took 4 hours as it required new larger cut outs in the cabinets in order to pass the much larger hoses, which contain a shut off valve assembly, then the previous Flavel dishwasher. When I tried to start it up, the machine was defective and nothing would display. Called the store and they agreed to exchange the dishwasher for another one. had to remove and reinstall the new dishwasher, another hour of my labor an back breaking work under the cabinets. All I got was 'sorry'. Not very good customer service.

Great so far. Hopefully it will also last 19 yrs!
I chose this because it was what I deemed to be the closest match to the Bosch dishwasher it replaced. Yes, they all break eventually, but the Bosch it replaced was installed 19 yrs ago by the previous owner in 2006 and I've used it almost daily for the last 13 yrs. So only time will tell. I went for this particular model in the Series 4 line-up since it had the all-steel tub, whereas the slighlty cheaper option had the plastic moulded one. To me the extra 10kgs of weight is a simple measure of quality. Installing was easy although the instructions would take some working out. Since I was replacing almost like-for-like I could just reverse the taking-out process. Even the door fittings had remained the same over the 19 yrs. If it aint broke, don't fix it. Will it be as reliable? If it is, I will hunt down this review in 19 yrs and say so ;-)
