Wash bedding, mattress & upholstered furniture

When washing your bedding, be careful not to overfill the machine with sheets to ensure the fabric has enough space to tumble freely. We recommend washing bedding weekly for optimal freshness.

Vacuuming your mattress is an important part of refreshing your bed during a spring clean. We suggest using a vacuum cleaner with a mattress-specific nozzle, like our Unlimited ProAnimal vacuum, which has a mattress nozzle and a 2in1 furniture brush & upholstery nozzle to thoroughly remove dirt from mattress fabric.

Dust curtains & blinds

If your curtains are machine washable, and have stains or a significant amount of dirt and dust build-up, we recommend machine washing them for ultimate freshness. Where a deep clean is not required, or your curtains are not suitable for machine washing, a lightweight vacuum cleaner is perfect for quickly removing dust and dirt. Our Unlimited 6 vacuum is light, cordless and has several attachments that make it perfect for easily cleaning hard-to-reach areas like curtains and blinds.

Declutter your wardrobes

First, start by removing all clothes and other items from your wardrobe before starting. Once the space is clear, vacuum the inside of the wardrobe to remove any debris or dirt. The Unlimited 8 vacuum cleaner has a high-performance nozzle that is perfect for cleaning drawers and corners. Once vacuumed, wipe the surface with a damp cloth.

A spring clean is a great opportunity to declutter your wardrobe. It's a great time to reflect on what clothes you wore last season and whether you'd like to keep them for the next. You might want to try the Marie Kondo decluttering method, where you donate or throw away any items that do not 'spark joy.'

Revive the carpets

How often should you vacuum your carpets? This all depends on whether you have pets, how many people are in your household and the room traffic. The general rule of thumb is that carpets and rugs in high-traffic areas, like living rooms, entryways and kitchens, should be vacuumed twice a week; whilst low-traffic rooms like dining rooms and guest bedrooms can be vacuumed once a week. All Bosch vacuum cleaners are ideal for carpet cleaning, including our new Unlimited 7 Aqua which, in addition to the Aqua nozzle, has an AllFloor Dynamic Power Brush which is perfect for everyday cleans and removing stubborn dirt.

Carpet stains are almost inevitable. Thankfully, for every stain, there's a solution. We have an entire guide dedicated to how to get stains out of your carpet that covers every type of stain imaginable. Each stain has a different solution, but all will be easier to remove if you act fast.

Refresh your shower curtains & bathmats

Bathrooms are the most humid spaces in the home, and prone to mould and mildew. Weekly washing of bathmats and shower curtains, machine washing where possible, and allowing mats to dry fully between uses can reduce odours and mildew in the space. Keeping your bathroom well-ventilated is also key to preventing mould and allowing fabrics to dry.

Deep clean the shower, bathtub, sink & toilet

When cleaning your bathroom, it's important to use separate cleaning cloths and sponges for each area to prevent cross-contamination. For example, the cloth used to clean the toilet should not then be used to wipe over your taps and sink. For the sink and toilet, we recommend sanitising the surfaces with a disinfectant to remove bacteria, especially the toilet handle and sink faucets.

We advise cleaning the shower with a bathroom cleaner and a sponge, or alternatively using the Unlimited 7 Aqua which has dedicated pads for specifically cleaning the bathroom.

Make your mirrors streak-free

Cleaning your mirror incorrectly can leave it streakier than ever. For a crystal clear reflection, we first recommend removing any light dirt and dust with a damp cloth. Afterwards, it's best to spray some glass cleaner on a microfibre cloth and wipe the surface in straight lines to avoid any streaks.

Tidy up the bathroom cabinets

To begin, remove all items from cabinets before you start cleaning. Once emptied, use a lightweight, handheld vacuum, like the Unlimited 6, to remove any debris in the corners. Next, wipe the inside and outside of the cabinets with a damp cloth. It's important that the cloth is not too wet, as this can damage the material so remember to wring it out. Now the cabinets are clean and empty, this is a perfect opportunity to declutter and re-organise your items before returning them to their place. Anything old, out-of-date or unwanted can be properly disposed of.

Clean tile grout

To tackle tile grout correctly, you'll need to use suitable tools and cleaner for your tile type. Using a neutral pH specialised tile grout cleaner, or preparing a bleach solution, is best for removing grout as vinegar or peroxide solutions can damage the grout. The material you use to clean the tile is important to prevent marking your tile, whether its ceramic, granite, marble, porcelain or slate.

The new Unlimited 7 Aqua is a great tool for tile and grout cleaning as it can be used horizontally and vertically for floor and wall tiles, with pads that are suitable for all tile surfaces.

Give your sofa & chairs a refresh

Sofas and chairs get a lot of use, so it's important to give them a refresh as part of your spring cleaning and regular routine. Different upholstery requires different care. For example, we recommend that fabric sofas should be cleaned with a fabric cleaner to properly combat dust and dirt build-up whilst not damaging the fibres. A mild detergent and a damp cloth are perfect for wiping down leather sofas to keep them clean and fresh. Our Unlimited vacuum cleaners include a range of upholstery and furniture brushes to help you clean every nook and cranny of your sofas, chairs and home.

Clean the curtain rods & blinds

For a thorough spring clean, treating your curtain rods to a polish can make them feel brand new. A damp cloth and a mixture made of mild detergent and warm water is all you'll need to clean metal or plastic rods and blinds. To maintain wooden rods, we advise using a wood polish or a wood specific cleaner.

Make your lamp shades look brand-new

Cleaning your lamp shades is a great way to brighten your home, literally. If you have stains on your lampshade, we recommend using a toothbrush or other soft bristled brush to gently remove dirt from the fabric. Otherwise, we suggest simply wiping the lamp shade with a microfibre cloth or a sticky lint roller.

Sanitise the electronics

It's important to be delicate when cleaning your living room electronics. We recommend using a soft microfibre cloth with a bit of bleach-free cleaning solution, or screen cleaner, to gently wipe down your TVs and monitors to remove any dust or fingerprints. Take care to avoid getting moisture into any openings or ports. For other electronics, and remotes, we advise using a slightly damp cloth to wipe over the surfaces and buttons.

Wipe the worktops and sink

Though you likely wipe over your worktops and sink on a regular basis, it's worth the effort to clean every inch of your counters during a spring clean. We suggest removing all appliances, storage, cookbooks and other items on your counters whilst you clean so you can reach the entire surface. Tougher stains and marks may need gentle scrubbing, but most surfaces can simply be wiped down with a damp cloth and some surface cleaner.

Organise cabinets, drawers & pantry

Spring cleaning is a great opportunity to remove out of date foods and empty products from your cabinets, drawers and pantry. It's best to remove all items before cleaning and declutter by checking food expiry dates and whether you'd use each item.

Crumbs and other food debris are easily removed with a vacuum cleaner, and Bosch Unlimited vacuum cleaners with their handheld & long flexible crevice nozzle accessory are perfectly suited to clean these small spaces. Once vacuumed, wipe down the surfaces with a damp cloth before returning items to their place.

Laundry room

When it comes to spring cleaning the utility room, it's important to ensure you're taking steps to care for your appliances in order to keep them running at their best. We recommend you wipe down all surfaces, reorganise your storage and then focus on appliance maintenance. This involves cleaning the lint trap in your tumble dryer, descaling and cleaning your washing machine and emptying the tumble dryer condensation unit.

We've written guides on how to clean a washing machine and how to clean a tumble dryer, to help you deep clean these appliances.

Floors

Each floor type requires different types of care and maintenance to protect and clean the surface correctly. We have a detailed breakdown dedicated to how to clean different types of floors to give you more specific spring cleaning advice for your floor.

However, as a general rule, cleaning your floors requires you to vacuum the dust and debris and then to mop the surface. This process is made easier with the new Unlimited 7 Aqua vacuum as it has both a mop and vacuum feature, allowing you to clean your floors thoroughly in one go.

Outdoor spaces

Spring is the perfect time to turn your focus back to the garden and bring it back to life after winter. Patios, balconies, pathways, decks, outdoor furniture, greenhouses, garages and your garden in general are key focus areas for outdoor spring cleaning.

Sweeping or raking away leaf litter and other types of debris like mud is a simple way to refresh your outdoor spaces. Using tools like power washers can also tackle areas like patios and decking to remove any grime and dirt that has built up during the winter. Outdoor upholstery can be machine washed whilst tables and other surfaces may be in need of a thorough wipe and scrub with warm water and gentle detergent. Throughout the spring and summer, you may need to incorporate cleaning your outdoor spaces in your monthly or biweekly cleaning routine.
