September is looming. And if you have kids of school age, you’ll know that means goodbye to late nights and lazy mornings.
We’re heading back into the Monday-Friday chaos.

  • Homework?
  • Freshly ironed uniforms?
  • Clean PE kits?
  • Healthy packed lunches that are actually going to get eaten?

The mental load sure does take its toll. And if you’re working too, no doubt you’re on the lookout for ways to minimise the extra workload, making life easier for both you and the kids.
So, we want to make it easy for parents to make fun and healthy packed lunches that are eaten and enjoyed, but won’t take you forever to prepare.
Here’s what is on the menu for September, and hopefully gives you some ideas to get the kids trying new things, while sneaking in a few hidden veggies!

Wrap roll-up with chicken and salad

Wrap roll-ups

A super simple take on the regular wrap. Fill some wholemeal wraps with your filling of choice. Avocado and cheese, tuna mayo, or chicken and salad tend to work well.
Then roll up the wrap tightly from top to bottom to create a long tube.
Chop along the tube shape to create bite size chunks.
These will pop nicely into a lunchbox compartment and are easy to eat without the mess or bits of filling falling out everywhere.

Pasta salads

Pasta salads are hugely versatile and you can mix in any ingredients you think your little ones might fancy. Chopped olives, peppers or cucumbers are all great options. Pop the ingredients on your weekly or fortnightly big shop, and store your veggies in your VitaFresh drawer to keep them crisp and fresh for longer.

Fruit kebabs on skewers

Fruit kebabs

Get your little ones eating a rainbow of colours with some easy and delicious fruit skewers. The skewer just seems to make them look a little more fancy and fun to eat, so could even trick your little ones into trying a variety of different fruits. Make them colourful by using kiwis, strawberries, melons and grapes. But if skewers are impractical, you could invest in some fruit cutters including stars and hearts, to make the fruits a bit more exciting and interesting.

*Children should be supervised at all times when eating this snack and fruit cubes should be pulled off the skewer before eating.

Cheese and broccoli muffins

Another sneaky way to get some greens into their diet. Chop up some cooked or leftover broccoli into small pieces and add to cheese muffin mix. Use the CreationLine Stand Mixer to take the work out of mixing. Bake in individual muffin containers so they’re easy to pop into lunch boxes as the week goes on. These are also a great option for toddlers if you want to make the batch go further.

Bosch ErgoMixx hand blender

Leftovers

Don’t forget that regular dinner leftovers can make a welcome change to your regular lunchtime choices, and a lot of dishes taste better the next day too. Chilli, fajitas, Bolognese, risottos and cottage pie are all delicious hot or cold. And using the ErgoMixx hand blender with vacuum storage, you can prep in advance, or even store them safely using the vacuum storing function.

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut with packed lunches and dinners. Routine often sends us into autopilot, but switching just one or two meals a week with some new ideas can help children to try new things, and take the chaos out of meal times.
