There is no joy quite like Christmas, especially for children. The festive holidays are a great opportunity to spend family time together and we’ve collated a list of some of our favourite Christmas crafts and activities.
1. Baking together
Making and decorating your own gingerbread house is a wonderful Christmas activity. You can use our gingerbread men recipe for the biscuit dough, but instead of shaping into men, shape into the pieces of a house. Search for a simple template online and once baked, decorate with icing and sweets to make your very own festive palace.
If gingerbread isn’t a favourite in your house, why not bake your favourite flavour cookies and wrap some up as gifts for neighbours, friends, and family, just be sure to save some for yourselves!
2. Festive films
Snuggle up on the sofa with blankets, popcorn and watch your favourite Christmas movies. Hot chocolate stirrers are easy to buy and allow the children to make their own hot chocolate by simply stirring into hot milk. Or you can make your own personalised hot drink using our Tassimo My Way 2, which will allow you to set the strength, temperature and volume of your hot drink the way you like it.
3. Winter walks
Wrap up warm and venture out on a winter walk, you could collect some twigs, acorns and pine cones to make Christmas decorations from, or create your own scavenger hunt with a treat of your choice at the end.
4. Christmas crafts
Spend an afternoon making homemade tree decorations using items found from your walk, or use cardboard saved from packaging and boxes. Even air-dry clay makes great decorations which can be painted once dry, just be sure to make a little hole in the decoration before drying so that it can be hung with string on the tree.
Homemade Christmas cards are a special touch and can be much more personal. Either give the kids free rein to create what they like, or you can do some hand, finger or vegetable printing to make festive characters such as reindeers or snowmen.
5. Learning new skills
Whilst cooking with children makes it harder work for you, it teaches them valuable skills and they will love spending the time with you. Crumpet pizzas are super easy, simply top a crumpet with passata, add their favourite toppings, top with cheese and place under the grill until the cheese has melted.
Alternatively, why not make a spaghetti
bolognese together. Using a Bosch ErgoMixx kitchen tool with the chopper attachment, you can assist them with chopping the ingredients without the need for sharp knives. They can also help in adding the ingredients to the pan under your watchful eye and grate the cheese to go on top.
Whichever activities you choose, remember Christmas is time for family to spend together. So, finish off your work and make the most of all this magical season has to offer.
