How to use and maintain your FreshUp.

Bosch FreshUp is a revolutionary new device that refreshes your clothes without washing, anytime and anywhere. It uses Bosch Plasma Technology to dissolve odour molecules and thereby instantly remove unpleasant smells from common dry fabrics without any added chemicals or detergents. Even delicate garments can be treated effectively yet gently.

Your Bosch FreshUp comes with everything you need to refresh your favourite clothes whenever, wherever. In addition to the device, you get an elegant sleeve to protect your FreshUp from scratches, a charger adapter and a micro USB cable to charge your FreshUp on-the-go or at home. Since FreshUp is a portable device made for on-the-go use, we chose resistant, long-lasting and thoroughly tested materials. Examples include the gold-plated plasma source and the high-quality ceramic used for the treatment area. For added protection, FreshUp comes with a protective sleeve to help prevent scratches, so you can easily take the fabric refresher with you.

Known as the fourth state of matter, plasma is found throughout our universe, for example in stars, the sun, and lightening bolts. Plasma can also be generated artificially. For FreshUp, plasma is generated through ionisation (breaking up ions), which produces charged particles. These charged particles form the plasma and dissolve the connections of simple odour molecules. Low concentrations of UV light and ozone occur as a natural byproduct. However, the small amounts of UV light and ozone are harmless to humans. Innovative Bosch Plasma Technology does not use UV light or ozone, but the power of charged plasma particles to dissolve odour molecules on clothes and textiles.

Treat a garment in just three easy steps:

1. Press the on/off button for one second to turn on FreshUp. It's ready to use when it lights up white.

2. Gently press onto the garment to activate Bosch Plasma Technology. Ensure the activation bar (on the underside) is pressed in and in full contact with the fabric. As soon as the plasma is active, FreshUp lights up purple.

3. Keep pressing and wipe across the fabric moving side to side. Avoid staying in one place. Odours are removed wherever a garment is in direct contact with the plasma treatment area.

A slight plasma smell during or just after treating is totally normal. It fades on its own after just a few minutes.

Pro tip: You can treat garments you're wearing or lie an item on a soft flat surface, such as a bed.

Most garments are treated in two to five minutes. A t-shirt, for example, is done in around two minutes while a jumper takes around five minutes. Spot treating an certain area, such as body odour in a shirt’s armpits, is even quicker.

The exact treatment time depends on factors like:

1. Odour intensity

2. Fabric thickness

3. Size of garment

4. Individual odour sensitivity

Thick fabrics or stubborn odours may require treating fabric from both sides, or repeating after briefly airing out a garment.

When plasma is active, it generates plasma particles. These charged plasma particles destroy the cell membrane of microorganisms like bacteria and viruses. They can become inactive and are therefore removed.

FreshUp effectively removes up to 99.9%** of bacteria and viruses*** on textiles. *An independent research institute tested the effectiveness of FreshUp when it comes to removing bacteria and viruses from clothes and other common dry textiles. This included tests with vaccinia ankara viruses, which is smallpox.

These are representative for other types of so-called enveloped viruses like vaccinia virus, HBV, HCV, HIV, influenza, H5N1, H1N1, herpes, measles, rabies.*

Yes, the activation bar needs to be in direct contact with the fabric. Gently press the activation bar onto the fabric to activate Bosch Plasma Technology. Then slowly wipe over the fabric while continuing to press. Continue moving and avoid holding the device in one place.

You might know prickling and discharge from some situations in everyday life – for example when touching a car or a doorknob. The phenomena that can occur with the FreshUp are similar to these discharges. In general, they are harmless for the human body yet occasionally feel unpleasant. Of course, we comply with guidelines regarding the protective impedance that apply in this case (max. allowed: 0.7 mA; FreshUp: 0.1 mA).

You can use the FreshUp safely when following the hints below:

• When in use, always touch both silver stripes on the FreshUp’s side
• Only refresh clothes on yourself
• Do not use the FreshUp on others – especially children – to refresh their clothes while they are wearing them.
• Do not use on the skin; only on common dry textiles.

FreshUp is suitable for and safe to use on all common dry fabrics, such as cotton, polyester, wool and silk. Ideal for removing odours on clothes, FreshUp can also be used to treat items like a sofa cushion or a teddy bear.

However, there are some materials FreshUp does not work on: leather, fur (real or synthetic), metal fibres, foam or any other non-textile surface, including skin and hair (human or pet). FreshUp is also not very effective on waterproof textiles.

Wet or damp items also cannot be treated. If the device blinks purple it means a garment is damp and needs to be dried before treatment.

In contrast to other solutions, which only cover the odour, Bosch Plasma Technology dissolves odour molecules. The molecules do not rebuild themselves, so the odour is removed. However, in case of very thick materials and stubborn odours, plasma may not reach deeper textile layers. In this case, you might notice a residual odour. If so, wipe over the textile again. If possible, treat the piece from the outside and inside, and also shake out the garment between two applications.

FreshUp is able to dissolve odour molecules from body odour and odours of food, cigarettes, deodorant, musty or smoky smells, for example. However, the smell of some (not all) perfumes might remain if they are especially long lasting and intense. In this case, the odour molecules might be too complex and strong to be broken up.

No, the FreshUp removes odours from textiles, but not stains. However, it can reduce the amount of washing required because clothes often lose their freshness even though they are not actually dirty.

No, FreshUp only needs to be charged to operate and can easily be recharged with the included charging adapter. No specific maintenance or additional substances are necessary.

Your FreshUp is very easy to maintain. All you need to do is charge the battery. No additional maintenance is required, meaning you incur no additional costs. To clean the plasma area, use a soft cloth only. In case of thick dirt or grime, wipe the plasma treatment area with a damp cloth.

Yes, FreshUp with Bosch Plasma Technology is safe to use even on clothes you're wearing, although it's not suitable for use on skin or hair. We thoroughly tested it on dry fabrics like polyester and cotton and, thanks to Smart Plasma Management, delicates like wool or silk. Smart Plasma Management controls Bosch Plasma Technology to ensure safe usage and optimum results, even on delicate fabrics. You can also safely use it to treat clothes you're wearing.

Intense testing has shown that the FreshUp does not harm the body or skin during intended usage. However, because we did not conduct tests specifically for the use during pregnancy. Therefore, we can not recommend it to pregnant women.

Unlike other methods, FreshUp does not use any water or chemicals to remove odours from fabrics. Instead, it uses Bosch Plasma Technology to dissolve odour molecules. Using FreshUp can reduce the amount of washing required and therefore reduce your water and detergent consumption. Less washing can also preserve the quality of your clothes in the long run. Additionally, it reduces the need to bring clothes to the dry cleaner.
